Canalicchio (Franco Pacenti) 2019 Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
$44.99 bottle / $239.94($39.99) six-pack Franco Pacenti's Canalicchio estate is on the cooler north side of the Montalcino hill and offers a superb terroir that is the source of earthy Brunello with stronger acidity than wines coming from the south side of the appellation. 2019 was a very good vintage in Montalcino in general and especially for producers who seek to create Brunello that trades on soil transparency, nuance, balance and elegance. Aromas of tobacco, scorched earth, leather cherry preserves segue to the long, linear palate where the aromatic themes are reprised as the dusty cherry fruit mingles seamlessly with the balancing acidity and fine-grained tannins that are now fully integrated into this regal powerhouse.“The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens slowly in the glass, earthy, dusty and floral, showing a savory blend of wild herbs and black cherries. This is surprisingly energetic on the palate, with silk textures and a juicy core of wild berry fruit complemented by violet inner florals toward the close. A saturation of fine tannins clamps down through the finish as the 2019 tapers off dry and with admirable length, leaving a tactile mineral crunch to fade. Drink 2026-2036” - 92 Vinous + “An earthy, savory nose has top soil, herbs, damp underbrush, dark cherries and berries underneath. Tart and bright cherries join strawberries on the palate, before the metallic tang of soil leaps forward, emphasized by notes of citrus peel and anise.” - 94 Wine Enthusiast Buy a case and try a bottle young, then watch its graceful evolution unfold over the next twenty years.

Domaine du Collier 2021 Saumur Blanc, Loire Valley
$74.99 bottle / $399.99($66.66) six-pack (Next lowest price in the U.S. is $84.00) Antoine Foucault is making some of the most exciting wines in the Loire Valley. The Domaine du Collier was created in 1999 by Antoine (son of Charly Foucault from the famed Clos Rougeard). Having worked at Clos Rougeard for four years, he took the opportunity to buy four-hectares of vines in the commune of Brézé in the best lieu-dit of 'La Ripaille'. The estate comprises 6 hectares with the vast majority of the estate planted to Chenin Blanc (including some 100-year old vines) and just under a hectare of Cabernet Franc. There is a substance to these wines that is impressive but more importantly there is clarity to them, a precision that demands attention. These are powerful, mineral-driven wines that do not assault the palate but seek to impress on grounds of their brilliant composition. The 2021 Saumur Blanc is from low yielding old vines grown on predominantly clay limestone soils and is a very powerful and complex wine even while young. The palate is very lively and broad with crystalline Chenin fruit and Saumur minerality and super concentration. As with the best Chenin Blanc, the magic happens as the wines age and evolve and this will do so magnificently through 2038. Don’t buy this wine because it’s gong to be a collector’s item, buy it because it’s freakin’ great.

Domaine du Collier 2021 Saumur Rouge La Ripaille, Loire Valley
$79.99 bottle (Next lowest price in the U.S. is $97.00) Domaine du Collier Saumur Rouge La Ripaille is a masterful take on Cabernet Franc. It has a booming resonance yet remains incredibly precise and finely detailed and needless to say that fans of the wines of the Clos Rougeard will find lots to like. In addition to its family resemblance to Clos Rougeard, aspects of the wine resemble the best Cabernet Franc-based Bordeaux like Cheval Blanc with its earthy nature and firm but fine-grained tannins. Above all, there is a refinement to this wine that escapes most other Cabernet Francs regardless of where they are from. A masterpiece in the making. Enjoy now through 2045. Extremely limited.

Domaine du Collier 2021 Saumur Blanc La Charpentrie
And now, the Grand Cru of Loire Valley Red and White Grand Crus: Domaine du Colliers Charpentrie! $119.99 bottle / $689.94($114.99) six-pack La Charpentrie is a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from Brézé in Saumur, grown on limestone-rich tuffeau soils and vinified with minimal intervention. The 2021 vintage in a break from the excessively hot vintages immediately before and after, is classically styled, highlighting the wine’s intense mineral expression with mouth-watering freshness and tension. Foucault’s wines are some of the most sought-after in the Loire, with tiny production and cult-level demand. La Charpentrie represents Chenin Blanc at its most refined: mineral, age-worthy, and profound. The 2021 La Charpentrie Blanc is laser focused with strong mineral expression that runs completely through the wine, with notes of citrus, quince, and stone fruits layered over chalk, and subtle honeycomb (the stuff bees make, not the cereal!) notes. The palate is tense and precise, with electric acidity and a long, long rich finish.

Domaine du Collier 2021 Saumur Rouge La Charpentrie
$119.99 bottle / $689.94($114.99) six-pack Along with Clos Rougeard (we have some of this too), this is the Loire’s most sought-after Cabernet Franc, offering Clos Rougeard-level quality at a fraction of the price. Since production is tiny and the wines age beautifully, they are treasures for any serious Loire or Cabernet Franc lover. The 2021 vintage in the Loire produced fresh, elegant wines with precision and lift, making La Charpentrie especially vibrant and terroir-driven, with aromas of dark cherry, blackcurrant, violets, and graphite. The palate is elegant yet powerful, showing red and black fruits, herbal spice, and chalky minerality, all wrapped in fine, persistent tannins. This wine will only improve for up to two decades and live happily for another 10+ years after that.

Domaine du Bouchot 2021 Terres Blanches, Pouilly-Fumé, Loire Valley, France
Sancerre seems to hoover up all the attention Sauvignon Blanc gets in the Loire Valley. And, while Sancerre can produce wonderful examples, there are others who are crafting incredible wines in neighboring appellations. Say Bonjour to rising star Antoine Gouffier of Domaine du Bouchot. He's the first in the appellation to convert to biodynamic farming - a move that showcases the famous Silex soils that have become the backbone of these wines. Pronounced notes of oyster shell minerality, culinary herbs like chervil and coriander, citrus and white pepper lead to a complex and crystalline array of flavors that are framed by a fine-grained dry extract with incredible length. Firm in it's youth, the next 5-8 years should only begin to show this wine's long term potential. Side note: Antoine's brother is the winemaker at the prestigious Etiene Sauzet. -Lance's Pick

Gimonnet Gonet, Blanc de Noirs, L'Etonnat NV, Champagne
$55.99 bottle / $299.94($49.99) six-pack New Grower-Champagne Alert! Just delicious Champagne Deal Alert! I need more in my glass alert! It’s all of the above with Gimonnet Gonet Blanc de Noirs L’Etonnant. Okay, okay, time to settle down. A blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, with a high volume of Grand Cru fruit included, this is an absurd value in high-quality Grower Champagne. Trust me, this out-classes a lot of big name Champagnes that would run you $85+. The Giomonnet Gonet is rich and luxurious on the full-bodied palate with notes of baked apple tart (the pastry too) along with a hint of cherry, and hazelnuts. The seductive palate offers a wonderful balance of richness, hedonism and brightness. Limited.

Pauline Collin Bereche 2019 Vieilles Vignes Ludes Premier Cru, Champagne
$97.89 bottle / $539.94($89.99) six-pack Want some insider-Champagne cred? Here you go. Yes, that Bérêche name sounds familiar because Pauline’s husband Raphael Bérêche is the winemaker at the famous Domaine Bérêche et Fils, our best selling Champagne producer and one of the leading lights of Grower Champagne. Upon tasting the second “sample” bottle this month, I found myself having a hard time taking notes rather than just enjoying the hedonistic pleasure of this Champagne. One unique characteristics of this Champagne is the use of a small proportion of Petit Meslier, a grape variety that often did not ripen in the past, but now provides firmness and freshness. Pretty damn tasty now, this should only gain in complexity over the next ten years or so. Extremely limited.

Montepeloso 2023 A Quo (Super Tuscan) Toscana IGT
From Montepeloso's hillside estate outside the town of Suverto, near the Tuscan coast, the A Quo is a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Montepulciano, 20% Sangiovese, 10% Marselan and 10% Alicante. I hate to admit it but I'm naturally dismissive of the "Super Tuscan" category. Montepeloso's 2023 A Quo, however, won me over easily while enjoyed with dinner a few weeks ago. Luxuriously textured, powerful and deeply layered in the glass, the 2023 A Quo is also nicely nuanced. Notes of Bing cherries, black plums, sage, lavender and rosemary are some of the many aromas and flavors that give the 2023 its savory, inviting personality. "The 2023 A Quo is a very pretty and delicious entry-level offering from proprietor Fabio Chiarelotto. Crushed berries, flowers, orange peel and spice lend notable freshness, but it is the wines effusive charm that wins the day. There's so much to like here. Drink through 2029” - 91 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Tenuta Olim Bauda 2021 Barbera d'Asti Superiore Le Rocchette, Piedmont, Italy
We're always on the prowl for what we call classic Barbera. Restrained, earthy and savory, yet, stacked with delicious cherry fruits. Arguably, the DOCG of Nizza is the pinnacle for the variety and this wine might help settle the debate. Deep purple in color and expressive aromatics that are unmistakably Italian. The intense palate is perfectly ripe and super delicious. Reminiscent of the old school - sign me up. Lance's Pick

Château La Grolet 2022 Cotes du Bourg, Red Bordeaux
This is real Bordeaux. By that, we mean traditional, old-school, pre-Parkerized, food-friendly Bordeaux without all the gobs of sweet syrupy fruit surrounded by vanilla oak pudding and 15% alcohol. The Côtes de Bourg is an unsung Right Bank appellation across the river from Margaux and la Grolet’s estate is farmed biodynamicly since 2000. The vines are deeply rooted in clay-limestone soils and the winemaking is hands-off but precise while aged in used neutral oak barrels. The 2022 vintage is 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This Bordeaux feels alive in the glass with juicy dark plum, blackberry, and dried herbs, with subtle earth and graphite undertones on both the nose and palate. While ready to enjoy tonight, there’s structure here, but it’s never cumbersome - it provides just enough grip to remind you this is serious red wine while still remaining balanced and food-friendly. Enjoy now and over the next seven years.

Domaine Laurent Gauthier 2023 Morgon - Cote du Py, Cru Beaujolais, France
Is great Cru Beaujolais the ultimate cool weather food wine? Well, it's hard to beat if you're looking for a wine that will enliven your dinner rather than run over it. A classic Morgon nose of strawberries, cinnamon and earth merge perfectly with the medium-bodied, complex and perfectly balanced palate. This wine really shows the texture and density of Cote du Py. While delicious now with steak frites, roast chicken, or virtually any manner of pork, the 2023 Gauthier Morgon Cote du Py will improve in terms of complexity over the next five to seven years. A really nice deal.

Domaine Capmartin 2020 Blanc Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, Sec, SW France
$24.99 bottle / $131.94($21.99) six-pack If you can pronounce Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh with an authentic southwestern French accent, please let us know! What the hell is Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh? Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh is, in fact, an appellation that almost exactly overlays the more famous Madiran sub-zone in SW France. Exotic aromas of bees wax, ripe nectarine, minerals and other stuff I can't articulate segue to the luxurious palate filled with stone fruit, citrus, spices and a core of minerality cutting through the palate from start to finish. The full-bodied palate is rich and powerful and kept bright and lively by fresh acidity. It delivers a level of complexity and persistence unusual to find in any wine, especially at this price level. Oh, it’s 100% Gros Manseng and, it's freakin' delicious! Certified organic and biodynamic.

Font du Loup 2023 Le Puy Rolland Veilles Vignes, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, So. Rhone Valley
$74.99 bottle / $419.94($69.99) six-pack We rarely get excited about Chateauneuf-du-Pape rouge. I mean, they can be impressive for their corpulence and all, but without balance and energy, we’re just not personally interested. After tasting Font du Loup’s 2023 Le Puy Rolland, we’re interested! Previously, the only C-D-P rouges we’ve really been enamored with are Chateau Rayas, Clos des Papas and Vieux Telegraphe. The 2023 Le Puy Rolland immediately took me back to several vintages of Chateau Rayas that, through the generosity of others, I’ve enjoyed like no other Chateauneuf-du-Papes. We’re not interested in hunting down “unicorn wines” like Rayas and paying $1000-$2500 per bottle so we’re pretty happy with the Puy Rolland at less than $80. Anne-Charlotte Mélia Bachas' vineyards stretch across the lieux-dits of Font du Loup and La Crau (made famous for the vines of Vieux Telegraphe and Henri Bonneau) in the village of Courthézon. Her Le Puy Rolland is 100% Grenache planted in 1905 on pure sand over limestone and then aged in large old foudre. There is a sense of finesse, purity and balance that is exceptionally hard to find in a Chateauneuf-du-Pape, allied with a floral component that makes this wine captivating. The nose is captivating, the palate flavor profile is captivating and the silken texture is captivating. Very, very, very limited.

Font du Loup 2023 Les Demoiselles, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, So. Rhone Valley
$39.99 bottle / $215.94($35.99) six-pack Continuing from the wine above…this is a ridiculous deal. 2023 is a highly regarded vintage in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and one of the best in terms of balance this century with its rare combination of wines that are at once big and powerful and filled with rich fruit yet also possessing the necessary acidity to keep them vibrant and lively. The 2023 Font du Loup Les Demoiselles is single best C.D.P. I've had under $60 in the last 10 years. This wine demonstrates what makes 2023 such a good vintage with its combination of pristine fruit, good acidity, suave tannins, fine aromatic complexity and a touch of the earth funk that makes C.D.P. special. Enjoy this big spicy wine over the next eight years. "Already bottled (I believe, anyway), the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Demoiselles checks in as 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah that was all destemmed and aged in a mix of concrete tanks and very old barrels. It has a medium-bodied, fresh, elegant, incredibly pretty style as well as lovely notes of ripe strawberries, raspberries, sappy flowers, and a hint of garrigue. I love its overall balance, and it has light tannins and outstanding length. Drink this charming, ethereal, Burgundian style Châteauneuf du Pape over the coming 5-7 years.” - Jeb Dunnuck

Anna Espelt 2023 Pla de Gates Bianco, Empordà, Catalunya, Spain
Some wines are just fun do drink and, you guessed it, that's just what this is. FUN. But, that's not to say it isn't a serious wine too. Constantly influenced by cooling Mediterranean winds this unique blend of Lledoner Blanc and Roig (Grenache Blanc and Gris) the 17 year Mas Marés vineyard is located within the Cap de Creus Nature Reserve. The site creates smaller clusters, berries, thicker skins, and fresher acidity. Makes it easy to imagine sitting in a vineyard overlooking the sea and sniffing a glass bursting with white flowers, melon, nectarine and sea spray. Perfectly balanced and fresh the palate has layers of nectarine, lemon zest, herbs, and a hint of sea spray. Seafood based tapas dishes recommended.
