Walgate 2022 Pinot Meunier, East Sussex, ENGLAND

Walgate 2022 Pinot Meunier, East Sussex, ENGLAND

$35.99 bottle / $197.94($32.99) six-pack Walgate Wines is Ben Walgate’s focused pursuit of terroir-driven, low-intervention English wine. Working from his organically farmed Peasmarsh vineyard in East Sussex, his aim is to craft wines that express site, soil, and season with clarity and restraint. The 2022 Walgate Pinot Meunier from East Sussex is a thrilling argument for English still wine. Pinot Meunier (now the darling varietal of Champagne) reveals its true character here: bright, expressive, and wonderfully food-friendly. East Sussex's cool-climate chalk and greensand soils mirror the terroir of northern France, coaxing out vivid red fruit — think strawberry, raspberry, and red cherry — with a subtle earthiness and lifted florals that feel distinctly of place. The 2022 vintage delivered exceptional ripeness in southern England, giving this wine a rare warmth and roundness while retaining the crisp acidity that makes English reds so refreshing and elegant. It's a wine that surprises: silky yet structured, approachable yet complex and a genuine milestone for Sussex winemaking. For anyone curious about the new wave of English red wine, this bottle is an unmissable conversation starter.

Suavia 2023 Soave Classico, Monte Carbonare, Veneto, Italy

Suavia 2023 Soave Classico, Monte Carbonare, Veneto, Italy

$25.99 bottle / $143.94($23.99) six-pack Suavia does not issue run-of-the-mill Soave - they deliver intense, complex food-friendly whites from the Veneto in NE Italy. This sommelier favorite is made from 100% Garganega and offers a rich and full-bodied palate without any sense of heaviness or flab. Crystalline orchard fruit marries with an electric streak of minerality and lively acidity to set off the fireworks. This white wine has real depth and concentration. “The 2023 Soave Classico Monte Carbonare tempts the senses with a bouquet of flint stones and white smoke, complicating freshly sliced nectarines and hints of rosemary. It is soothingly round with a balanced inner sweetness offset by saline mineral tones as a gorgeous mix of ripe apple and sour lime plays a game of contrasts on the palate. This finishes with excellent length and clarity, leaving nuances of candied citrus and sweet sage to linger. Suavia captured the saline intensity of the vintage and matched it to a vivid core of ripe fruit. Well done. Drink 2025-2030.” - 94 Vinous

Royal Tokaji 2022 Dry Furmint, Úrágya First Growth, Hungary

Royal Tokaji 2022 Dry Furmint, Úrágya First Growth, Hungary

The 2022 Royal Tokaji Furmint Uragya is a masterclass in why Furmint deserves a place among the world's great white grapes. Grown on the volcanic soils of Hungary's legendary Tokaj region, this single-vineyard dry Furmint crackles with energy and precision. The 2022 vintage brought beautiful ripeness balanced by Tokaj's natural acidity, yielding a wine of real tension and complexity: layers of green apple, citrus zest, quince, and white pepper, with a smoky, mineral depth that speaks unmistakably of its volcanic origins. Uragya ("Lord's Acre") is one of Tokaj's most prized sites, and Royal Tokaji's meticulous winemaking lets the terroir sing without interference. The result is a wine of thrilling freshness, remarkable length, and quiet confidence -proof that Tokaj's story extends far beyond its famous sweet wines.

Of course we're gonna feature this wine! You know we love Lopez de Heredia and we're in the sharing mood. Looking for sub-$50 wine that can easily age 20+ years? Here you go! While delicious since its release, the 1994 Viña Bosconia in my cellar just started hitting its full stride a few years ago.  At 12 years old, the 2014 is already very expressive and enticing. Already delicious, this wine will continue to evolve in a positive manner for many years to come. Get it while the gettin’ is good. If it matters: "The 2014 Viña Bosconia is 80% Tempranillo with 10% Garnacha, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from the El Bosque Vineyard in Haro, Rioja. Garnet in hue, it opens with cassis, cola, and oak-driven aromas. The palate is youthful andsmoot, with well-integrated tannis, black fruit and anisette at the finish. C.&V. Gasnier 2024 Chinon Blanc (Chenin Blanc) Les Deux Rives, Loire Valley

C.&V. Gasnier 2024 Chinon Blanc (Chenin Blanc) Les Deux Rives, Loire Valley

This Chinon (better know for great Cabernet Franc) Blanc is produced from 100% Chenin Blanc that grows in siliceous-limestone soils and give Chinon its signature minerality and gout de terroir. If you love the mineral-driven Chenin Blancs from Savennieres, Saumur and Vouvray, you owe it to yourself to indulge in this amazing value. A pale golden color, the Gasnier Les Deux Rives offers aromas of honeycomb (the real stuff, not the cereal) oven-warm freshly-baked bread and ripe nectarine. The dry, full-bodied palate has more in common with a great Saumur than Vouvray with its big waxy texture and unique mineral expression. The aromatic themes are reprised on the palate and given forces and structure from fine acidity. Enjoy over the next five years with white-fleshed fish like halibut, prawns, lobster and or even roast pork or lemon chicken.

Domaine de l’Amauve 2025 Séguret Blanc, La Daurele, Southern Rhone

Domaine de l’Amauve 2025 Séguret Blanc, La Daurele, Southern Rhone

This wine is so cool. Séguret is a small appellation in the Southern Rhone Valley specializing in Grenache-based red wines, but there is a tiny amount of delicious white wine made there as this wine demonstrates. A blend of organic Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Clairette and Ugni Blanc, the l’Amauve is a dead ringer for a top Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc. Aromas of freshly cut hay, honey and wet stones give way to the rich, balanced palate. It’s a full-bodied white (yet only 12.5% alc.) with peach and citrus fruits that play off one another and complement the stoney gout de terroir. Enjoy now and over the next two years with crustaceans, fish stews, pork dishes, and all manner of vegetarian cuisine.

Sergio Marani 2024 Verdicchio di Matelica, Marche, Italy

Sergio Marani 2024 Verdicchio di Matelica, Marche, Italy

Recently a customer announced to us that she'd been on quite the pasta bender, to which we immediately responded with an emphatic "hell ya!". In that moment it occurred to me that I'd been on a similar sort of bender but with Italian white wine. For me, no other country consistently offers such fantastic wines that every serious wine drinker can afford. This month's example, by third-generation grower-winemaker Segio Marani and his two sons, is a high mountain terroir masterclass. It opens with an intricate burst of preserved lemons, saffron blossoms, and an herbal garigue buoyed by delicate white flowers. The palate is full of contrast with fantastic mineral tension against the rounded, medium-bodied texture where you'll find citrus pith, saffron, beeswax, and green apple. At the dinner table this Verdicchio evolves wonderfully as it slowly comes up in temperature. Reward yourself often with a plate of pasta and some Italian Vino Bianco! -Lance's Pick

Expect breathtaking precision: brioche, white peach, and citrus blossom, underpinned by that signature Avize chalkiness with a deep, saline minerality that lingers long after the last sip. Small-domaine craftsmanship means real personality in the glass — unhurried, terroir-driven, and genuinely distinctive.
