Bénédicte et Stéphane Tissot is one of the benchmark names in eastern France’s Jura region - a small region that while unknown to many Francophiles, makes those in the know, heart race with excitement. I count myself as a diehard Jura fan and stayed in Arbois this spring. If you are unfamiliar with Chardonnay from the Jura, this is a textbook example of just what it should be. Aromas of roasted hazelnuts, spice, lemon zest and earth segue to a palate that just radiates energy. Flavors of freshly cracked walnuts, sautéed chanterelle mushrooms, lemon curd and green apples all vie with a strong current of stoney minerality for your attention. A medium body and brisk acidity keep this Chardonnay fresh and very food-friendly. Enjoy over the next three to five years with everything from lobster to poultry to your favorite pork products.
