LAST VINTAGE EVER for Guy Robin due to retirement and sale of the vineyards :( This is one of the last great Chablis Premier Cru deals in the worldwide marketplace. Montée de Tonnerre is arguably the greatest Premier Cru vineyard in Chablis, often out-classing most of the Chablis Grand Crus. Montée de Tonnerre sits directly to the south of the Grand Cru Les Clos vineyard and in 2023 shows the richness of Les Clos fruit, but more importantly, the mineral expression of Montée de Tonnerre. Briny aromas of oyster shell, chalk, lemon curd and lime segue to the rich palate that offers a pleasing tension between Meyer lemon fruit and its strong core of chalky minerality. Guy Robin’s Montée de Tonnerre runs circles around most other Chablis in the sub $125 range and offers one of the few remaining classic old-school Chablis still available but 2023 is the end of the line, so don’t pass it up.
