Sancerre seems to hoover up all the attention Sauvignon Blanc gets in the Loire Valley. And, while Sancerre can produce wonderful examples, there are others who are crafting incredible wines in neighboring appellations. Say Bonjour to rising star Antoine Gouffier of Domaine du Bouchot. He's the first in the appellation to convert to biodynamic farming - a move that showcases the famous Silex soils that have become the backbone of these wines. Pronounced notes of oyster shell minerality, culinary herbs like chervil and coriander, citrus and white pepper lead to a complex and crystalline array of flavors that are framed by a fine-grained dry extract with incredible length. Firm in it's youth, the next 5-8 years should only begin to show this wine's long term potential. Side note: Antoine's brother is the winemaker at the prestigious Etienne Sauzet.
