Domaine Faiveley 2022 Givry Champ Lalot Rouge

What makes this 2022 Champ Lalot (100% Pinot Noir) particularly exciting is how it demonstrates the potential of well-situated Côte Chalonnaise vineyards in warm vintages. The combination of excellent terroir, old vines, Faiveley's biodynamic farming and precise winemaking has produced a wine that offers tremendous value. Domaine Faiveley's monopole Champ Lalot in Givry represents one of the Côte Chalonnaise's finest terroirs, and the 2022 vintage has produced a wine of exceptional quality that challenges perceptions about Burgundy's southern regions. This 3.99 hectare monopole (entirely owned by a single winery) owned by Faiveley since the 1930s, consistently produces wines that rival many Côte d'Or offerings at a fraction of the price. The nose features ultra pure Pinot Noir fruit with cherry and violets and a hint of earth. On the palate, this wine transcends typical Givry expectations. The texture is remarkably refined - silky and polished with the kind of sophistication usually associated with premier cru wines from Volnay.  This wine has very good balance with the fruit being framed by silky tannins and nice acidity. The Champ Lalot’s finish is nicely detailed, with persistent notes of red fruit, spice, and mineral that rival Red Burgundies at much higher prices.
