Hold up! This is unlike any other wine from Mt. Etna, Sicily, or anywhere in southern Italy for that matter. Owner - winemaker Massimiliano Calabretta, likes to say: "I make my wine like Bartolo Mascarello!" Indeed there is an old Nebbiolo-esque profile to the wines. Aromas of roses, dried cherries, tar, earth, and notes of volcanic soil tones waft from the glass. Given the high elevation (300-900 meters) and 85 - 95 year old vines, the wines retain a freshness and delineation along with a palate that echos the nose and recalls mature Barbaresco.
