Collection: Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau

The latest release of Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau is upon us, and, while we're still smitten with the previously featured 2022, we were super excited to check out the 2024s. It's fair to say that once again these wines absolutely deliver top quality at fantastic prices.

If you're just discovering these wines or need a refresher:

Domain Chagnoleau is headed by husband and wife duo Caroline Gon and Frantz Chagnoloeau. Frantz learned the ropes with master Olivier Merlin while Caroline led Dominique Lafon's Mâcon operation until 2022 when she joined Frantz full time. Together they have 3.5 hectares Mâcon Chardonnay in a single block in Saint Albain, and several smaller plots in Viré Clessé, Saint Véran and Pouilly Fuissé, making up 6.8 hectares in total - all certified organic since 2013.

These wines are chiseled, mineral driven, and transparent. We were very impressed by the wines at a recent tasting and are some of the best wines we've had from Burgundy from the 2022 vintage. Here's a chance to explore the full range before their popularity catches up with their reputation.

“I adore these wines. They rank among the finest in the region, and their Saint-Véran got me entertaining the idea of Premier Cru status being extended to this appellation. On the other hand, not all winemakers have the aptitude and talent of this pair." - NEAL MARTIN

For those who are like me and struggle with the pronunciation, Chagnoleau is pronounced - shaun-yuh-low.

Frantz Chagnoleau 2024 Vire-Clessé Les Raspilleres

From the highest elevation site in Vire-Clessé, aged in older demi-muides and charming from the onset, this wine is bright, driven, and pure. The limestone soil helps showcase the minerality against a heady floral mix with lemon-lime zest. A sapid finish with juicy zip draws you right back for another taste. This wine oozes class.

Frantz Chagnoleau 2024 Saint Veran A La Roche

Frantz Chagnoleau 2024 Saint Veran A La Roche

A mere 80 cases produced from a .42 hectare plot on blue marn soils. La Roche is prone to Millerandage (chicks and hens) which requires extra efforts in the vineyard and can greatly affect yields. After some coaxing from the glass, touches of stone fruit, peach skin, oyster shells. The palate is full of restrained power with lively with movement and drive. Delicious now, five years or more of patience in the cellar will certainly be rewarded.

Frantz Chagnoleau 2024 Pouilly Fuisse Madrigal

Frantz Chagnoleau 2024 Pouilly Fuisse Madrigal

From a selection of different parcels, the couple targets barrels that show more austerity and reduction. Classic White Burgundy with longer elevage that's built to age in bottle. Deeper more compact yellow fruit, nectarine, and white peach on the nose with a wisp of dried honey. More weight on the palate with a lovely creaminess this wine is almost Meursault-like. Delicious but quite coiled right now there is great promise here. Either decant or give it 5-10 years in the cellar.
