2006 Lopez de Heredia, Rioja Reserva, Viña Tondonia $37.89
Lopez de Heredia's Viña Tondonia Rioja Reserva is one of Spain's greatest wines. In fact, if I were to only buy one red wine from Spain, it would be Viña Tondonia. With complexity and longevity that would embarrass most first growth Bordeaux and at about 1/10 the price, this is truly an amazing wine and equally amazing value. Lopez de Heredia is perhaps the most traditional winery in the world with little changing in the way they make wine over the last 130+ years. The 2006 Viña Tondonia Reserva is the great young Viña Tondonia Reserva. The nose offers enticing aromas of dried cherries, cigar box, leather and faint vanilla bean. The perfectly balanced and supremely elegant palate is well structured with good acidity and refined tannins that frame the complex flavors of dusty minerals, plums, dried herbs, orange peel and hazelnuts. This wine has amazing depth. Buy a case and watch it develop and gain in complexity over the next 30 years. “Vivid red. Highly perfumed scents of ripe red currant, cherry liqueur, pipe tobacco, leather and rose oil, along with a hint of coconut in the background. Juicy and precise on the palate, offering deep-pitched red fruit preserve, spicecake and floral pastille flavors and a hint of mocha. The silky, sweet, impressively long finish features excellent clarity and lingering spice and smoke nuances.” - 93 Vinous & 95 Wine Advocate

2016 Felsina, Chianti Classico RISERVA, Tuscany $29.99
Felsina is one of my two or three favorite producers in all of Tuscany. The entire range of Felsina Chianti Classicos are always detailed, balanced, complex and structured while offering unparalleled value at their respective quality levels. With this, the much heralded 2016 vintage, Felsina's Chianti Classico Riserva has risen to new heights. “The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva shows all the quality and pedigree of the year in its layered personality and overall nuance. Cedar, dried cherry, game licorice and tobacco convey the darker, gamier side of Sangiovese that is such a signature at Fèlsina. The 2016 finishes with terrific energy and bright acids that suggest it will enjoy a long life in the cellar, but readers should plan on giving it at least a few years in bottle.” Drink through 2036 - 92+ Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2018 Kelley Fox, Dundee Hills Chardonnay, Durant $39.89 / $216.00($36.00) six-pack
As many of you have discovered over the last five or so years, old vine Willamette Valley Chardonnay is every bit as compelling as is Pinot Noir. The Durant vineyard has proven to be one of the Willamette Valley's best sources for Chardonnay and in Kelley's hands, it rocks. From a 1991 planting fermented in amphora then aged in neutral French oak. This is highly aromatic and ultra-pure on the palate with excellent texture and mouthfeel supporting gorgeous Chardonnay fruit and some mineral action on the long finish. Perfect balance. While this is quite obviously not from CA or WA, it blurs the line between the Willamette Valley and White Burgundy. I guess it brings the best attributes of both appellations. Enjoy now through 2028.

2017 Kelley Fox, Pinot Noir, Hyland - Coury Clone $55.89 / $299.94($49.99) six-pack
This is my favorite Oregon Pinot Noir of the vintage for drinking now and over the next five to ten years. I think Kelley's Maresh - Star of Bethlehem bottling will be even more compelling with extended cellaring, but for now, this is my favorite 2017 Oregon Pinot Noir. It's from a 1988 planting of own-rooted Coury clone vines and shows tremendous aromatic complexity. If it smells this good now, I can't imagine how amazing the aromatic profile will be when it reaches its window of maturity! The deftly-balanced palate combines power and concentration with elegance and finesse in a way that simply dazzles. Pinot Noir winemakers all over the world lust after this combination, yet so few ever realize it. The interplay between the beautiful red fruits (Hood strawberry and red raspberry) and earthy/mineral components are mesmerizing. The silky texture is seamless all the way through the long, penetrating finish. Enjoy over the next 15+ years.
