2014 Franchino, Gattinara, Alto-Piemonte $39.99
Mauro Franchino has devoted his life to the 7.4 acres that he meticulously works by himself within the Gattinara zone where he produces his wine in his ancient stone house. In most vintages, the Franchino winery only produces about 950 cases, including Gattinara and a Costa della Sesia.  If you love the Nebbiolo grape, you will be enamored with Gattinara. It is as wonderful as its more famous neighbors in Barolo and Barbaresco - just as profound and complex, but due to differing soils, climate, and history, it's just different.  Gattinara wines are a little higher in acid and tend to be little leaner than their southeastern cousins Barolo and Barbaresco.  With its high-toned nose of roses, leather and porcini mushrooms and beautiful palate with great texture, Mauro's Gattinara is a perfect reflection of the traditional, old-world style in both depth and earthy complexity. This 2014 Gattinara is very structured and will be in its prime window of drinkability between 2024-2045. I can’t think of a Nebbiolo from anywhere with this much depth and potential for under $60.00

2015 Francesco Rinaldi, Barolo, Cannubi $57.89
The super complex nose leans toward the savory/high-toned spectrum with sage and soil aromas joining the fray. As usual, compered to the Brunate, the palate is more linear and tightly wound at this point. The Cannubi has a history of opening up over time and revealing itself slowly. This beautifully-balanced Barolo is built for a long, graceful maturation in the cellar.

2018 Francesco Rinaldi, Grignolino d’Asti $18.89
Geek Alert: I love the alpine nature of this wine. Grignolino is a local specialty and rarely makes it out of Piemonte where it is consumed with gusto. Rinaldi’s Grignolino is a pale red color (as it should be) with an enticing alpine forest scent. Flavors of red raspberries, earth, pine and leather are framed by tangy acidity and make this a very food-friendly red. Enjoy over the next two years with lamb burgers, pork sausages, chicken cacciatore, mushroom risotto and all forms of cucina Piemontese.

2015 Francesco Rinaldi, Barolo, Brunate $57.89
The explosive nose is bursting with aromas of truffle, menthol and leather. The palate is very full-bodied with plenty of tannic grip buffered by dark, but restrained fruit and notes of porcini mushrooms, earth and leather. Good acidity keeps this wine in line and ensures a long evolution, although it’s already hard to resist.

2015 Colombera & Garella, Bramaterra, Cascina Cottignano, Alto Piedmont, Italy $35.89
From the tiny DOC Bramaterra, this is a blend of 80% Nebbiolo, 10% Croatina, 10% Vespolina. Weighing in at 12.5% alcohol, this wine is mid-weight and lithe compared to Barolo and Barbaresco, yet there is no lack of concentration. The nose is Barbaresco-like, but with more dimensions from the addition of the Vespolina and Croatina. The palate is very soil-driven with a strong streak of volcanic minerality piercing the wine's red fruit and savory flavors. A touch of pleasant rusticity and great complexity make for an extremely satisfying wine with so much vibrancy and energy. Enjoy now and over the next fifteen years with mushroom risotto, braised meat, game, and game birds. Rockin’! Only 291 cases made. Very limited.

2012 Perrier Jouet, Brut Champagne, Belle Epoque SALE $99.99
Sales like this one only happen once or twice a year. Here are two very different Champagnes - both delicious - that are priced well below the national average. Both are in very limited supply. First come, First served. The iconic Perrier Jouet's prestige cuvée, Belle Epoque, is a generous Champagne unveiling aromas of jasmine and honeysuckle with a rich, hedonistic palate with pear and peach notes, framed by Meyer lemon zest and enhanced with mineral tones for added complexity. Above all, this is truly luxurious Champagne! Hervé Deschamps' Belle Epoque Brut brings out the freshness and elegance of the Chardonnays (50%) from the grands crus of Cramant and Avize. From the Montagne de Reims, the Pinots Noirs (45%) display a generosity and delicate complexity that prolong the Chardonnays' finesse. Finally, the rounded charm of the Pinots Meuniers (5%) from Dizy provides the finishing touch to this beautifully balanced cuvée with great texture and mouth feel. Yum! Enjoy now and over the next decade.

2016 Felsina, Chianti Classico, Tuscany $23.89
Vintage-in and vintage-out, Felsina is the most consistent winery in Tuscany. Hailing from the hamlet of Berardenga in the southern-most region of the Chianti Classico zone, Felsina issues beautifully pure and very structured Chianti Classico that combine power and finesse in a manner few Tuscan wineries can. After the unusually ripe and forward 2015 vintage, the 2016 is a return to the much more classic style of the estate. "This is fragrant and floral with dark berries on the nose. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh, clean finish. A driven and linear Chianti Classico. The backbone of fresh acidity gives this focus.” - 93 James Suckling
