Bereche, Champagne, Brut Reserve, France $46.99
Whether you're a Champagne geek, or just looking for flat out DELICIOUS Champagne, you can't go wrong with Bereche. Highly aromatic with notes of toasted brioche and lemon cream, the rich, textured palate offers notes of buttery biscuits and lemon zest followed by a lashing of chalky minerality. Bereche's Brut Reserve is blended from roughly equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, with about 30 percent reserve wine and the remainder of this bottling being from the outstanding 2018 vintage. This bottling is stacked with energy and grip and a medium-full-body platform, displaying an impressive depth of fruit, minerals, ginger, citrus zest and and racy structure. Did I mention how delicious this Champagne is? Fantastic now, the Bereche Brut Reserve will only improve and gain in complexity over the next five to seven years. We’ve been promoting Bereche Champagne since long before they became one of the Champagne darlings of the sommelier world and now they are in short supply. If you’re fan, buy all you can now as it will go fast and then probably be unavailable until the late fall.

Nicolas Maillart, Brut Rosé Champagne Grand Cru, Montagne de Reims, France $50.89
As a lover of Rosé Champagne, I can tell you this is my favorite Brut Rosé currently available for under $100. While this Champagne works beautifully as a head-turning apéritif, it really excels at the table and works seamlessly with a wide variety of food - easily complementing charcuterie, poultry, pork and even beef as well as more traditional Champagne food partners. The tie between Nicolas Maillart and Fred Savart really shows in this Champagne.

2018 Nicolas Maillart, Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs, Les Loges 1er Cru Villers Allerand $65.89
Another intense, mineral-driven wine from Maillard, the Les Loges is a beautiful copper color. A very expressive nose offers aromas of roasted chestnuts, buttery pie crust and autumnal scents of chanterelle mushrooms, hay and soil tones. The palate offers a balance of textural richness and complexity that is striking. Notes of hazelnuts, cured meat, plums and a flinty minerality make for an extremely attractive Champagne. I very rarely find 100% Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs to be this complex on both the nose and palate

2016 Nicolas Maillart, Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs, Jolivettes Bouzy Grand Cru $71.89
100% Pinot Noir from a vineyard planted in 1972 on pure chalk. This is an amazingly vinous Champagne that’s made for the table - especially for quail, chicken, duck and wild game dishes. Mineral-driven, rich and full-bodied with the structure to insure a long, graceful evolution in the cellar.

Special Price: $71.89 per bottle

2016-base Nicholas Maillart, Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs, Montchenot 1er Cru Villers Allerand $51.89
A blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier, the Montchenot is a great introduction to the unique and compelling Champagnes of Nicolas Maillart. The medium-bodied Montchenot is bright, fresh and delicious with real complexity and suburb balance. It gains a spicy note with air and finishes with strong cut and length. Already delicious, this will continue to improve for several years.

2007 Lopez de Heredia, Rioja Reserva, Viña Tondonia, Spain $42.89
Lopez de Heredia's Viña Tondonia Rioja Reserva is one of Spain's greatest wines. In fact, if I were to only buy one red wine from Spain, it would be Viña Tondonia. With complexity and longevity that would embarrass most first growth Bordeaux and at about 1/10 the price, this is truly an amazing wine and equally amazing value. Lopez de Heredia is perhaps the most traditional winery in the world with little changing in the way they make wine over the last 130+ years. The 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is the great young Viña Tondonia Reserva - probably the best of the decade up to this point. The nose offers enticing aromas of dried cherries, cigar box, leather and faint vanilla bean. The perfectly balanced and supremely elegant palate is well structured with good acidity and refined tannins that frame the complex flavors of dusty minerals, plums, dried herbs, orange peel and hazelnuts. This wine has amazing depth. Buy a case and watch it develop and gain in complexity over the next 30 years. “Following the appreciation of the 2007 vintage from María José López de Heredia, the red 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is showing great, revealing unusual finesse and elegance. The nose is a little reticent but nuanced and complex, a little shy rather than explosive. The palate is medium-bodied, and the tannins are very refined. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years.” - 96 Wine Advocate

2017 Produttori del Barbaresco, Barbaresco “Normale” Piedmont $39.99net
Come and get it! “The 2017 Barbaresco shows just how appealing this vintage can be. In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mint are open in the glass, but it is the wine’s seductive radiance that wins the day. Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo are the main vineyards used for the straight Barbaresco. The 2017 is such an inviting and expressive wine. Don’t miss it!” - 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

2016 McKinlay, Pinot Noir, Special Selection, Chehalem Mts. Willamette Valley, OR $34.89
Insider alert: For over 25 years, Matt Kinne of McKinlay winery has been quietly issuing some of the finest Pinot Noir in the new world. You won't find McKinlay wines reviewed in the wine press, but you will find them in the cellars of the savviest Pinot Noir collectors. Matt's 2016 Special Selection bottling is the winery's most structured and age-worthy Pinot Noir. McKinlay issues several different Pinot Noir bottlings in most vintages, but his Special Selection is the one he bottles with long-term development in mind. From the the Estate and Ladd Hill vineyards planted in the 70s with the noble Wedensville and Pommard clones, the 2016 Special Selection offers a Volnay-like beautiful nose with scents of violets, earth, game and warm cherries. The palate is reserved, yet penetrating with exquisite balance (13% alc.) and a seductive silky texture. Really pretty red fruit, earth, minerals and a hint of cinnamon in the background are supported by lively acidity and suave tannins and ensure a very long and graceful evolution; a model of power and elegance. This may turn out to be the value of the vintage for Oregon Pinot Noir capable of long-term cellaring. What kind of style of Pinot Noir do we stock our cellars with? This kind! A true value.

2017 Jean Bourdy, Cotes du Jura Blanc (Chardonnay) Jura, France $29.89
Geek Alert: Founded in 1475, the current Bourdys represent the 15th generation of producing wine, in what is the epicenter of Jura's revival as a wine producing region. The prodigiously mustachioed Jean-François Bourdy is the Domaine's current ambassador, and an enchanting one at that. The Bourdy wines represent a style of wine which is since long lost in our hurrying state of mind, where immediate pleasure most often dictates our buying decisions. The Bourdy family couldn't care less as they continue to make wine in the same manner as they have for so many generations. This 100% Chardonnay is all about Jura terroir on both the nose and palate. Unlike any Chardonnay from outside the Jura. Very nice now,but will really reward a long spell in the cellar. Experience terroir in action.
